Ace Race Coming to Westover Disc Golf Course

July 19, 2011

Saturday, August 27 at 11:00 am.

Format: Two rounds of 18 holes, one throw per hole per player.

Course layout: Holes are generally between 180 and 250 feet (55 to 75 meters).

Entry fee: $25

Player package: Guaranteed to be at least twice the value of your entry fee! The 2011 player pack is expected to include two identical Discraft prototype discs made especially for Ace Race, plus a SuperColor mini, sticker and a sweet disc bag for every player. More than a $50 value!

Rules of play: Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. All players should have their own scorecards and mark “A” for aces (a hole-in-one) and “M” for holes on which they hit metal.
After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. Players keep their scorecards for round two, using the next line on the card to record the round.

The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.

Prize package: Grand prize for each event is a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and eight new discs.

To sign up: Contact Ed Steele at 433-2474, or, or Matt Snyder at 476-5303 or

New Basket Locations

March 25, 2011

In an effort to minimize erosion on the Westover Disc Golf Course, baskets 1, 15, 16, and 17 have been moved to their alternate locations. Unfortunately, alternate basket locations for holes 8 and 11 need to be dug up and replaced. They were mangled by the mowing crew! Hopefully, this work can be completed next week, prior to the beginning of the Bag Tag Challenge, scheduled for April 2 beginning at 10 am.

2011 Bag Tag Challenge

March 23, 2011

The Harrisonburg Bag Tag Challenge will kickoff with a tournament format on Saturday April 2, 2011 at 10:00 am. The cost to participate in this season long challenge is $10. The player on Saturday April 2 with the lowest score will receive the number 1 Bag Tag. Higher scores will receive the sequentially numbered tags. Following the Bag Tag Kickoff, players will receive a current ranking with players’ contact information. Players will then be obligated to participate in challenge matches to keep their Bag Tag current.

A brief meeting will be held prior to tee off to discuss possible Bag Tag Challenge days where as many players as possible convene for a “throwdown”. We will also discuss the possibility of this loosely organized group becoming more organized in order to better serve the local Disc Golf community.

Ice Bowl Will Go On!

February 5, 2010

With the prediction of up to 28″ of snow, what a better day to have an Ice Bowl? We will go with the Ice Bowl as scheduled 2/6/10. Please see prior post.

Some things to consider on Saturday:
* You may not be able to drive into the park. If you can’t, please park as close and safe as possible, and walk the remainder.
* Park staff may be plowing.
* The Rec Center will be listed as being CLOSED. That message is for the wimps and whiners not participating in the Ice Bowl.
* The doors closest to Hole 1 will be open.
* We will meet in classroom 1.
* Warmth and bathrooms inside.
* Snack machines will be available, but bring $1’s or proper change.

I will cross country ski over, so don’t look for my car!

Let it SNOW!
